Abdul Rahman Ahmad Hafiz is representing his country in Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition, underway in Tehran.
He told IQNA in an interview that since long ago, he had dreamed of taking part in the prestigious Quranic event and he was finally given the opportunity this year.
Abdul Rahman said he started at an early age in his home country and then continued to improve his Quranic skills in Kenya.
He noted that both his parents are memorizers of the Holy Book.
In The Comoros, where virtually all people adhere to Islam, people are very keen to learn the Quran and there are many Quran memorizers, especially among women and girls, he stated.
While in Kenya, he learned Quran recitation in the Hafs from Asim style and received a recitation permission.
Abdul Rahman also noted that his first Quran teacher in Maqamat and Naghamat was an Iranian named Saeed Rahimi, who currently resides in Madagascar.
As for the qaris he likes and follows, he said he likes the Quran recitations by late Egyptian qari Sheikh Muhammad Rif’at and also Iranian qaris Saeed Rahimi and Seyed Javad Hosseini.
He also described the Iranian people as a Quranic nation and said he is proud to have the opportunity to attend the competition in Iran.
Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition was launched in Tehran on Thursday.

The closing ceremony, where winners of different categories are going to be announced and awarded, will be held tonight. It will be addressed by Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi.
The annual event, organized by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, aims to promote the Quranic culture and values among Muslims and showcase the talents of Quran reciters and memorizers.
